This project was designed to improve the levels and drainage status of two full sized rugby pitches, improve drainage in the main rugby pitch and construct a new junior pitch.
Works comprised of cut and fill earthworks and the installation of a Primary piped drainage scheme to the new pitches and Secondary Sand Band system into the main first team pitch. A new pitch was also constructed on an existing hard standing area. This hardstanding had to be broken, removed and then materials to construct the pitch were brought to the site.
In order to improve the levels 200mm of topsoil was stripped and set aside, a CAT D6 laser guided dozer was used to remodel the levels of the sub-soil to the correct grade prior to re-spreading the topsoil. Again the laser guided dozer was used to re-grade the topsoil. Once graded the amelioration sand was added to improve the soil condition. The Primary drainage system was now installed followed by cultivation, fertilisation and seeding.
Renovation works to the First team pitch consisted of the addition on sand slits. These were installed using a AFT Whiz Wheel 75 and Shelton Sand Placement Hopper.
CLS Sports will carry out maintenance operations over the next 12 months to ensure that the pitches are established to their full potential.
