Natural Pitch Drainage Installation and Renovations
We were approached by Bradford City AFC for their extensive end-of-season renovation works after a heavy season of play.
One of the main aspects of the project was to install a new intensive drainage system to their stadium pitch after it previously suffered from poor drainage. We installed lateral drains at 3m centres using a whizz wheel trencher. This was connected into the old system, making a 1,300m drainage system that can successfully divert heavy rainfall, minimising impact on the pitch.
Further to this, a secondary drainage slit system was installed at 90 degrees to the lateral drains, connecting the surface to the laterals.
A polypropylene fibre sand was then installed to create stability in the surface before we began the seeding operation.
The project involved us working closely with the groundsmen and the natural turf consultant to ensure the turf was established correctly ready for the first game of the season.
'The Valley Parade renovations are the best I have had in a number of years' Mick Doyle, Head Groundsman.
