Shildon Stadium Athletics Track, County Durham

CLS Sports were appointed by Durham County Council to refurbish the Shildon Stadium athletics track by installing new synthetic surfacing to the full 8 lane track, sprint straight and event area. 

We firstly undertook repairs to some of the track edgings and thoroughly cleaned the entire 8 lane circuit and event areas. On inspection some areas of the base mat were out of tolerance and in need of repair. These areas were carefully cut out and a 10-11mm in-situ black rubber base matt mixed with a polyurethane binder was installed.

The textured structure spray coat was then applied using a red pigmented polyurethane binder mixed with red EPDM rubber granulate. The materials used and surface installation were all in accordance with current UKA specifications. 

A new IAAF compliant hammer/discus cage was also supplied and installed with a new concentric circle and DDA ground fixings. 

To complete the project a new blue acrylic spray coat was applied to all the existing blue surfacing surrounding the long/triple jump areas and track perimeter.

The completed track surface and events areas were then line marked to current UKA specifications using a two-part polyurethane paint.
