Hockey Pitch Refurbishment
This project involved the refurbishment and resurface the full sized synthetic turf pitch at St. Edwards College, Liverpool.
The old synthetic turf pitch at St. Edwards College was in much need of refurbishment. The carpet, having been neglected over the years, was preventing adequate drainage and had developed large holes. A number of areas were also uneven due to tree root damage meaning the performance characteristics of the pitch were extremely poor. This meant that the College was struggling to develop lettings from external sports clubs and groups.
CLS began the refurbishment by removing the existing synthetic turf and carrying out remedial works to the existing base. The damaging roots were also dug out and a root barrier system was installed to prevent future damage.
A new insitu rubber shockpad was installed onto the existing engineered base before the FIH National compliant sand dressed synthetic turf was laid. New ridged panel twin bar fencing was also installed to ensure the pitch was secure and Olympic standard goals were supplied. The project was completed within a fast 7 week programme to FIH National standards.
Following the installation West Derby Hockey Club agreed to relocate back to the college to train every week, providing an important new income stream for the college. West Derby Captain, Leigh-Carroll-Jones is thrilled that the club has been able to return to its roots; “It feels great to be back – It feels like home. I joined the club as a 14-year-old from St Edwards College, and so to be back it feels like we’ve come full circle, and the whole committee couldn’t be happier.”
