3G Pitch Construction and Hockey Pitch Refurbishment

This project involved the refurbishment of an existing hockey pitch and construction of a new 3G pitch for rugby.

The school’s natural turf pitches were often waterlogged throughout the winter periods and rugby play was limited. The new 3G pitch which is World Rugby and FIFA accredited now allows the pupils to play rugby and football all year round, even during the wet winter periods.

The topography and environment of the new pitch was a particular challenge on this project. Drainage cells were installed underneath the new pitch to ensure the existing drainage system was not overloaded and a retaining wall structure was installed in 1 corner of the pitch.

The existing hockey pitch surface had reached the end of it’s life and was therefore in need of replacement to ensure it met FIH requirements. A new synthetic turf was installed along with a new shockpad to ensure it would span the new life of the turf.

Project Overview:

  • Refurbishment of existing hockey pitch
  • Construction of World Rugby and FIFA Quality 3G pitch
  • Drainage cell installation
  • Retaining wall construction
